Sonas Takes Action in Regard to Equality and Social Justice Posted on: June 19, 2020 In the Community Dear Sonas Family, Over the years, we have worked hard to create an environment of acceptance, diversity, and love — not only for our patients but for our employees. We accept and strive to provide a comfortable atmosphere for people of all races and backgrounds. To us, true diversity is exemplified through the way we carry ourselves and our actions regarding equality and social justice. Today, as we celebrate Juneteenth, the oldest nationally celebrated commemoration of the ending of slavery in the US, we are reminded again of historic battles fighting for racial equality — battles that continue today. The horrifying events over the past several weeks have put a magnifying glass on the impact of systemic racism. Witnessing racial violence and hatred firsthand with the death of George Floyd has left an indelible mark on our souls. This is not a time for our organization to be silent — instead, we are reaffirming our commitment to the Black community across our company. I want us to do better. Together, we are resilient and can protect each other. The hardships, disrespect, continued dismissal, and fear that many of our Sonas family members have faced during their entire lives have to be acknowledged — and we stand by them in support. So, I invite you to lean on your Sonas family for strength during this difficult time. Together, we can make a difference. Our commitment is to listen and to provide the environment that our Sonas family deserves. We want to know what we can do to support you. What have we done well, and where can we improve? Help us identify opportunities so that together we can become a stronger team. I welcome you to reach out to me, personally, or to your support team to have these conversations and provide feedback for improving our future. Our action is to support, not just with words, but with a financial contribution. We are donating $5,000 toward a few suitable causes that are fighting for social justice, but we need your help. To determine which causes need our support, we want to hear from you. Let us know which local causes are the most meaningful to you. Submit your ideas over the next two weeks. All submissions can be sent to marketing@son.symphonypreview.com. While we have always been committed to diversity and to being an equal opportunity workplace, we understand that there are still improvements to be made. Personally, I want to thank you all for being patient, understanding, and open to the tough conversations we have been having and should continue to have on a regular basis. I look forward to hearing your feedback and sincerely appreciate your efforts as we move forward together.
